FIRST IT WAS Dustin the Turkey. Then it was Bosco. Now another Irish TV legend has gone viral with her support for marriage equality – Mrs Brown.

The Brown matriarch (played by Brendan O’Carroll) teamed up with director Lenny Abrahamson to make a video in support of a Yes vote, saying:

When I was a young girl, there was a big hoo-ha about ‘mixed marriages’. White people marrying black people, Catholics marrying Protestants, and that sort of thing.

But they still went and got married. And the world didn’t end. And we all grew up a little bit. And we all have to grow up a little bit now.

Since the video was posted yesterday, Mrs Brown has basically taken over the internet.

Her message really took off on Facebook, where it reached over one million views and 63,000 shares within a few hours of going online.

It was shared by Irish celebrities like Graham Norton and Amy Huberman:

And yesterday evening, four out of the five top news stories in Ireland were about Mrs Brown.

The video has even impressed Mrs Brown’s detractors:
